WhatsApp, occurs in two steps for all – Want …

WhatsApp has announced that two-step verification or authentication in two-factor (2FA) will be enabled for all users with the next update for iOS, Android and Windows. The feature was introduced three months in a beta version for Android. Unlike encryption, end-to-end that ensures privacy of conversations, the 2FA comes to the security of the account.

While the encryption end-to-end is a server-side technology and therefore obligatory for all, the two-step verification is optional and must be enabled in the settings. The first step of the authentication is of course the phone number entered at the time of installation. The second step is a six-digit code that serves to verify the above number. Of course, you should avoid codes such as "123456" or "654321", quite useless for the purpose and extremely simple to expose: the double-check comes at the end to multiply the security of your account, therefore the use of the keys too simple would leave the door open. WhatsApp recommends that you also enter a email address, which will be sent the link to disable the authentication in two-factor if the user forgets the code.

The company stresses that the phone number can not be re-verified within 7 days from the last use of the service without the access code. After these 7 days it is possible to check the number again without the access code, but all pending messages will be deleted. If the number is re-verified after 30 days from the last use of WhatsApp, and without the access code, the account will be deleted and will be created a new one at the time of verification.

Periodically, it will be shown on the app is a reminder that prompts the user to enter the code. The only way to prevent its display is to disable two-step verification.

To enable the verification of the "two-step" we first need to wait that WhatsApp has activated on your account this feature. To verify this it is sufficient to navigate the menu, which will be the path up to the end only in the case where the activation has already taken place.

The path for the activation is the following:

 Settings / Account / Verification / Enable

WhatsApp is reminiscent of not respond to any emails that ask you to disable the dual verification, unless it is expressly requested such passage, since it is likely that you will have to attend to the phishing attempts by criminals ready to steal your identity on the service.
