BlackBerry will not produce more smartphones – Want …

BlackBerry has published the financial results for the second quarter of 2016 and, as expected, the numbers confirm the loss for the division of Mobility Solutions. For this reason, the CEO John Chen has announced that the canadian company does not realize more smartphone. The production of the next devices will be entrusted to external partners. The abandonment of BlackBerry OS 10 and that the step to Android has brought no benefit.

according to the latest quarterly report, which covers the period between June and August, BlackBerry has recorded net losses of 372 million dollars and a total turnover of $ 334 million. The division of Mobility Solutions lost another $ 8 million, that you add up the millions lost in the last seven years. BlackBerry had 20% market share in 2009, and today has a market share of practically nothing (0.1% according to Gartner). The CEO had stated on several occasions that the company would exit from the smartphone market, if the business didn’t bring profits.

That day has arrived: BlackBerry will invest all of its economic resources in the software development and services (the homonymous division has made record profits of us $ 29 million). The BlackBerry brand will not disappear from the smartphone market, because the production of future models will be entrusted to other companies. The first partner is the BB Merah Putih, with which BlackBerry have signed a joint venture agreement for the production, distribution and promotion of the smartphone in the indonesian market.

In reality, the abandonment of the hardware business had already started with the DTEK50, a copy of the latest Alcatel Idol 4, as part of the production was entrusted to Foxconn. So far, however, the company had maintained significant internal resources for the realization of the devices. The next model, i.e. the DTEK60, it should be announced at the beginning of October.
