Facebook celebrates 12 years and celebrates Friendsday – BBC

Milan , February 4, 2016 – 17:58

Remember the famous theory of six degrees of separation? If you have an account on Facebook, you need to revise the number downward. Several downside: as calculated by the company itself (which now takes 12 years: above the official photo of the celebration) Two persons, both entered in the platform, they are separated by just 3:57 degrees. Just five years ago, it was 3.74. Plus the whole world connects to the company (Fb now counts 1.59 billion subscribers) plus the degrees of separation will continue to shrink.

12 years of success

Everything else, however, in these 12 years has increased. Starting from the personal assets of Mark Zuckerberg, founder of the company that in 2004 was a student (not too popular) and today is among the richest in the world. Thanks to Facebook and Zuckerberg to his success has created an empire, even acquiring social photography Instagram (over 400 million users) and WhatsApp messaging platform (which has just passed the one billion users). Neither one nor the other has really begun to gain, but analysts said it will not take long before they become the next hens laid the golden egg of Zuckerberg. Meanwhile, to celebrate the occasion, the social network has launched the #friendsday initiative that allows you to share a video with the most relevant moments (chosen by an algorithm or manually selected) with their friends.

the next goals

What, meanwhile, has expanded its business interests by investing in many other sectors, from drones to virtual reality. It launched projects to connect to the internet in the most difficult areas of the world and has taken the field in support of various causes. Directly or indirectly: the picture of him together with his baby girl about to be vaccinated was interpreted as yet another stance. And there are others who advocates for Zuckerberg, a future political career.
