Venice, June 28, 2015 – Venice in a sea of plastic . The data collected by Legambiente in the campaign Do not Waste Venice indicate that in the canals of Venice floating waste every 13 meters , almost all of plastic.
During the monitoring of the canals of Venice were collected over 500 waste floating in a radius of 7 km, of which 87% were plastic, among them 25% were represented by containers liquid, the rest of the waste collected was composed of butts, cigarette packs, lighters and trash bags.
The campaign Do not Waste Venice, included as part of the European research project DeFishGear , was launched with the arrival in Venice of Green Schooner Legambiente, who also presented data official status of the waters in the lagoon.
The first data collected on the seabed of Chioggia showed an average density of over 700 waste per square kilometer , of which 92% is plastic materials, with a small percentage of polystyrene.

The water monitoring will continue throughout the month of July with a second step expected between late October and early November.
