Apple expands again. And it does so by acquiring Gliimpse, startup of a former employee who deals with the management and sharing of personal medical data.
The acquisition was defined at the beginning of ‘ year, but the news was disclosed only yesterday by the Cupertino giant after they have leaked some indiscretions by Fast Company.
but what is the history of Gliimpse? the startup stat was founded in 2013 by Anil Sethi, an engineer at the beginning of the 80s he worked directly at Apple. The Sethi CV is online, on his Linkedin profile, which says that the idea behind Gliimpse was born after having personally experienced the grueling battle against his sister with breast cancer. Situation that told former Apple engineer how difficult to obtain and manage personal medical data.
Gliimpse is also available in the form of application, among other things, easily usable with Apple Watch and allows you to manage and share with extreme facitlià medical data. The app is free it generates money through health care providers and software developers who pay for sharing programs.
It is not the first move by Apple in the digital health sector. Recall that the bitten apple offers various services in this field, such as HealthKit, CareKit and ResearchKit which offer the ability to access data via device. At the moment, it is not yet clear how Apple will exploit the potential of Gliimpse within its ecosystem.
