There is a direct line linking Italy to Cupertino. A thread that already in the last three months had paid off. Before Tim Cook host the opening of the academic year of the Bocconi. Then, at the end of 2015, the agreement between Apple and the Italian tax authorities, with the Californian company that agrees to pay 318 million euro to end the long dispute with the Inland Revenue about the payment of fees for sales made in Italy.
The last chapter, probably the most intriguing for our country, however, ends today. Or maybe you should say it opens. A few hours ago, in fact, in a statement Apple announced the creation in Italy of the first iOS App Development Centre of Europe “to provide students with practical skills and training on developing apps for the iOS app ecosystem of more innovative and vibrant in the world. ” In the aftermath of the passage in Italy by Tim Cook, Il Sole 24 Ore had in fact talked about the availability of the CEO to invest more in Italy.
The iOS App Development Centre will be located in a partner institution in Naples, will support teachers and provide a specialized curriculum preparing thousands of prospective developers to join the thriving community of Apple developers. In addition, the California company “will work with partners throughout Italy who provide training for developers to complete this curriculum and create more opportunities for students.” From Cupertino, then, they expect to expand this program to include further countries worldwide. But the fact that we start from Italy, from Naples, is certainly an important sign.
“Europe – said the CEO of Apple, Tim Cook – is home to some of the most creative developers the world and we are excited to help the next generation of entrepreneurs in Italy to acquire the skills needed to succeed. The phenomenal success of the App Store is one of the driving forces behind the more than 1.4 million jobs that Apple has created in Europe and presents unlimited opportunities for people of all ages and companies of all sizes across the continent ” .
From what has been learned in the official note branched morning, the Cupertino giant runs strong throughout Europe and the ecosystem of the company supports over 1.4 million jobs in the Old Continent, including 1.2 million attributable to the community of creators of apps (software engineers and entrepreneurs who create iOS apps, as well as work related to technology not supported directly and indirectly from the app economy). And the figures are remarkable: the App Store has allowed developers in Europe to earn more than € 10.2 billion from the sale of their app in the world.
As for Italy, they are more 75 thousand of jobs attributable to the App Store. Some successful example comes directly from the statement released by Apple: IK Multimedia has launched its first app in 2009 and since then has had over 25 million downloads. Musement, launched in 2013, is now available in seven languages and 300 cities in 50 countries, making it easier for people to book trips and excursions on the move. The research center that will open in Naples will give a further boost to the app-Italian economy. Or at least that is the intent.
And Renzi announced: “Tomorrow Cook in Italy ‘
Even the prime minister, Matteo Renzi, during the press conference this morning at Palazzo Chigi focused on the news Apple, speaking of “closure of two major blows to our ICT system, the first with Cisco, the second with Apple.” Renzi said that the opening in Naples’ will be a beautiful reality of innovation, apps, I think about six hundred people, if I saw good numbers. ” “Tomorrow – said the prime minister – Tim Cook will be here, we’ll talk after the meeting in Milan last November and after the excellent Apple-government agreement on the outstanding tax.”
