Good news for those who buy music, movies and online applications: Apple has just introduced a provision for repayment within fifteen days of purchase through iTunes, App Store and iBooks.

While worldwide refunds are screened on a case by case basis by the support team Apple, now on to the countries of the European Union will be in place a different procedure: users will be able to resort to a refund within two weeks after invoicing, except for iTunes gift card if the code has already been used.

The change is related to a new directive on consumer rights approved in June by the European Union, which lists the products and services purchased in countries of the European Economic Area (EEA), which should enjoy a right to redemption or repayment of fifteen days.

But while Apple ran for cover, Google has only partially aligned: on Play Store purchases are refundable within fourteen days with regard to film and subscriptions to streaming music services, while books, albums and individual songs window to present the request for reimbursement is only seven days. Google has decided not to give up on the front of the app, however, whose redemption requests are only valid within two hours of purchase.

The problem raised by the European Directive, as many complain, is that in a fortnight any user can easily complete a game or read a book and ask for the money back having already used the product purchased. The risk, as well, is that they open the door to a form of legalized piracy that could bring more damage to the developers and the creative industry that safeguards consumers honest.
