Blu-ray discs for the most efficient Solar Panels – PianetaCellulare.it

According to a new study published in Nature Communications, and taken from the Washington Post , as recorded on Blu-ray could be exploited in the design of solar panels , with the certainty of having a greater absorption of sunlight.

Blu-ray owe their great ability to store information to the structure composed of tiny incisions in the surface – small ‘stores’ that store data , for example, information of a film. It turns out that the grooves nanoscopic can make solar panels more efficient, increasing the absorption of the material of the sunlight.

Researchers at Northwestern University have come to this conclusion by testing movies and television shows of various kinds engraved on Blu-ray disc, using them as a model for a solar cell polymer. In addition to the advantage of having a greater absorption of light, the fact that the Blu-ray disc can be used as cells of photovoltaic panels is a also economic advantage : blu-ray technology is suited to mass production, cheap, and then the new cells may be an effective way to create photovoltaic systems at low cost.
